Harford War Archaeology walk

On Saturday 24th May our Harford war archaeology walk started with a talk in the church by Vicky Colston about her uncle, Captain Michael Farr, whose gravestone in is the St Petroc’s churchyard. Vicky brought photographs, maps and letters about her uncle, which will be scanned and added to the Harford graveyard database. From the church, Chris Haigh and John Howell then took 10 of us on a fascinating walk around some WW2 sites near Harford Moor Gate, where there was a temporary army camp prior to the D-Day landings.

Meanwhile, back at St Petroc’s, Sandra and Martin Symonds continued cleaning and measuring graves for the new digital graveyard map. Sheets and instructions are available in the church for anyone who would like to help with this. Also, there will be another organised graveyard event from 10am on 14th June.
