Celebrate National Bog Day Saturday 27th July 2024

Our next parish breakfast will be from 8.30 – 10am on Saturday 27th July, cooked by Masterchef Paul Alexander. A small donation is requested to cover food costs.

Following the breakfast, John Howell will lead a guided walk to the peat rewetting project at Left Lake to celebrate National Bog Day. This peat bog is part of the most southerly blanket bog in Europe, so is very significant.  The peat rewetting here is important for storing both carbon and water, and is part of a larger project to preserve peat bogs across the South West of England.

The walk to Left Lake is 3.5 miles each way and will take in the newly uprighted standing stones at Piles Hill. The outward leg involves a lot of uphill and will take approximately 2 hours – the homeward leg is mainly downhill and will take less time.  A map of the route is attached.

We will aim to leave Harford Church at 10am and return between 1 and1.30pm.  Please bring water and snacks for the walk and a packed lunch to eat in Harford Church on our return.  Tea and coffee will be available at lunchtime.

Dogs are welcome on a lead but are not allowed in Harford Church.

We hope you can join us for this Bog Celebration walk.  For further details contact lorna.lukesland@gmail.com
